2026-2027 TAASC Programming Overview

WHAT:

TAASC is a program for kids, based in Morganton for over 30 years, that utilizes the outdoors, outdoor skills, and community service projects to develop future leaders.

WHO:

TAASC programs currently serve kids 8-18* who are interested in participating in a community of peers dedicated to personal growth, outdoor skills development, community service, and leadership.
*7 year-olds admitted on a case-by-case basis

HOW:

During each year, students will participate in rock climbing, rappelling, paddling, backpacking, camping, hiking, wilderness first aid, outdoor survival, juggling, and slacklining. They will participate in community service projects, have opportunities for public speaking, presenting to a group, and practicing operational planning. TAASC also emphasizes disappearing life skills such as confidently introducing yourself, eye contact, and other face-to-face interaction norms.

WHEN:

TAASC operates from September through May. Students attend a 1.5 hour weekly evening meeting to learn and practice skills, and participate in monthly “field” trips to apply skills in the outdoors.

WHERE:

Weekly meetings are held at our headquarters in downtown Morganton with monthly trips taking place at varying locations within a 2 hour radius (transportation provided.)
